Course Description

The Advanced Burn Patient Care on-line course and simulation Burn Center™ is a self-directed, web-based learning program produced by 360Ed, Inc. and Shands at the University of Florida's Burn Center. Burn Center™ is designed to train trauma surgeons, emergency medical technicians, nurses, and ancillary staff in several areas, including Triage Procedures, Initial Care, Surgical Management, Pain Management, Wound Care, Post-Operative Nursing Care, and Psychological Considerations. Burn Center™ provides instruction in the assessment and management of mass casualty burn victims both at the scene and during the first 36 hours post-injury.

Burn Center™ is organized as a series of 12 video lectures, a multiple-choice assessment, and an interactive, game-based training module that simulates the real-life emergency triage events of a mass-casualty disaster scenario. The game-based training module also includes a simulation of a hospital environment in which multiple burn patients must be cared for over the course of a 36-hour resuscitation period.

Burn Center™ was created to train and prepare health care providers in the treatment of advanced burn care in a mass casualty setting. By incorporating tried-and-true game design methodology with professional medical knowledge and teaching techniques, Burn Center™ makes the precious experience and knowledge of life-saving techniques easily attainable and memorable. Burn Center™ takes full advantage of the growing trend for electronic simulation of medical procedures and tactics. Trainees will earn 8.0 CME and CNE credits by viewing video lectures and completing the Burn Center™ Triage and Resuscitation simulations with appropriate scores.

This CME/CNE activity is supported by an educational grant from the Florida Department of Health.
